Ball Pythons are known to be a very calm and friendly species. They are an ideal choice for those looking for a pet snake that they can handle easily. Though their individual personalities can and will vary, Ball Pythons are generally very docile. They are a somewhat shy species that gets their name from their tendency to coil inwards into a ball. This makes them a very family-friendly snake that is generally a great choice for households with children.
Compared to most household pets, Ball Pythons require very simple care. To house a ball python, youโll need an enclosure or tank, a heating element, substrate, hides, and a water bowl. Due to their slow metabolism, Ball Pythons only need to be fed once every 7-10 days. Since they donโt eat daily, they donโt generate a lot of waste. Spot cleaning your enclosure once a week and changing out the substrate entirely once a month is more than enough to maintain a clean and safe environment for your scaly pet. Aside from that, youโll need to ensure that their water bowl is regularly cleaned. They will sometimes go for a dip in their bowls so changing the water every 24-48 hours is ideal. For a full guide, check out ourย care sheet.
As hatchlings, Ball Pythons are 8-12โณ long and 60-95 grams. Over a period of 2-3 years, they will grow in both length and girth until reaching a mature size of 3-4.5 feet.
